About Owen's Story: Korean Stocks & Investment Research

Welcome to Owen's Story, an independent personal blog focused on the South Korean stock market, Korean companies, and the industries shaping Korea's economy.

Owen's Story was created to help international readers better understand Korean stocks, KOSPI, KOSDAQ, Korean technology companies, and major industry trends through English-language research and analysis.

This website is independently operated and written by Owen, an individual investor with more than four years of personal investing experience and a strong interest in Korean companies and the global industries connected to them.

Who Is Owen?

Hi, I'm Owen, the writer and creator behind Owen's Story.

I have been personally interested in and investing in the stock market for more than four years, with a particular interest in Korean companies and the industries that play an important role in Korea's economy.

As I continued researching Korean stocks, I noticed that much of the information about Korean companies is primarily available in Korean. For international investors and readers, understanding Korean companies, financial results, industry developments, and local market trends can therefore be challenging.

That's why I created Owen's Story.

I research Korean companies and industries that I find interesting and share my findings in English. My goal is not to tell readers which stocks they should buy, but to make information about Korean companies and the Korean stock market easier to understand for people around the world.

I am an independent individual investor and writer, not a professional financial advisor, investment bank, brokerage firm, or institutional research organization. The opinions expressed on this website represent my personal views based on the information available to me at the time of writing.

Why Owen's Story?

South Korea is home to many globally important companies and industries, particularly in areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, batteries, automobiles, shipbuilding, defense, biotechnology, and technology.

However, international readers can sometimes find it difficult to research these companies because of language barriers, differences in market structure, and the complexity of Korea's local business environment.

Owen's Story was created to help bridge that information gap.

Through this website, I aim to research and explain Korean companies, industries, financial developments, and market trends in English so that readers outside Korea can better understand the opportunities, challenges, and risks within the Korean market.

My goal is simple:

To make Korean stock market information easier to understand for readers around the world.

How I Research Korean Stocks

When researching a company or industry, I try to look beyond short-term stock price movements and understand the underlying business and industry environment.

My research generally considers several areas:

1. Company Fundamentals

I review factors such as revenue, operating profit, net income, margins, cash flow, debt, capital expenditure, and other relevant financial indicators.

2. Industry Position

I consider market trends, competition, industry cycles, technological developments, supply and demand, and the company's position within its industry.

3. Growth Drivers

I look at potential growth factors such as new products, capacity expansion, capital investment, technological developments, overseas markets, and structural changes within an industry.

4. Risks and Uncertainties

I also consider factors that could negatively affect a company or industry, including competition, economic conditions, regulation, geopolitical developments, cyclical demand, valuation, and company-specific risks.

The purpose of this process is to provide readers with a broader perspective rather than focusing only on whether a stock price may rise or fall.

Data Sources & Research Transparency

Owen's Story relies primarily on publicly available information when researching companies and industries.

Depending on the topic, sources may include:

  • Financial Supervisory Service (DART): Corporate filings and regulatory disclosures
  • Korea Exchange (KRX): Korean stock market and listed-company information
  • Company Investor Relations (IR): Official company announcements, presentations, and investor materials
  • Annual and Quarterly Reports: Financial statements and business information
  • Official Government and Public Institutions: Economic and industry-related data
  • Reputable Industry and Financial Sources: Additional information used to understand market and industry developments

Where appropriate, individual articles may include specific sources or references so that readers can review the underlying information themselves.

I believe that clearly identifying sources and distinguishing between reported facts and personal interpretation is an important part of responsible financial content.

My Approach to Financial Analysis

Owen's Story does not aim to simply reproduce company information or summarize financial news.

When possible, I try to add my own interpretation by connecting company fundamentals with industry trends, technological developments, market conditions, and potential risks.

For example, instead of looking only at a company's latest earnings, I may consider how changes in semiconductor demand, AI investment, capital expenditure, competition, or foreign exchange rates could affect the company's future business environment.

These analyses represent my perspective as an individual investor and may change as new information becomes available.

Readers should therefore distinguish between factual information reported by official sources and my personal opinions or interpretations.
